On one of the most hilarious and interesting episodes of BoJack Horseman, some of the characters got involved in a deep and heated discussion about who was a “Zoe" and who was “Zelda." If you resonate with the character of Zoe, you are serious, cynical, pessimistic, and more likely to lean on dark humor. If you resonate with the character of Zelda, you are an optimist who sees the good things in life by being carefree, loving, and uplifting to those around you.

Obviously, it sounds like being a Zelda is better than being a Zoe but realistically, a lot of people naturally resonate with the character of Zoe since Zoe-types look at life through realistic lenses rather than rose-colored glasses.

10 Zoe: Diane Nguyen

Diane Nguyen

Diane Nguyen, voiced by Alison Brie, is definitely a Zoe. She acted as the moral compass to BoJack throughout all six seasons of the show because she cares highly about doing what is right. Due to the fact that her moral compass was so overpowering, it never left a lot of room for her to look at life in a carefree and nonchalant way. She takes everything very seriously including politics, women’s rights, and the importance of knowing right from wrong.

9 Zelda: Mr Peanutbutter

Mr Peanutbutter

Mr Peanutbutter is the most happy-go-lucky character on the entire show… Other than Todd Chavez. Mr Peanutbutter always looks for the best in people and assumes that others have good intentions. Despite the fact that BoJack Horseman is constantly losing patience with Mr Peanutbutter, he still tries to be BoJack’s friend at every chance he can get. He is very nonchalant and untroubled with life since things are constantly working out in his favor.

8 Zoe: BoJack Horseman

BoJack Horseman

BoJack Horseman himself, who is voiced by Will Arnett, is undoubtedly a Zoe. He is a depressed horse who has millions of dollars to his name from his career as an actor in the 90s, yet he still finds himself miserable and lonely. He reflects on the fact that he is in his fifties and is unable to experience what it feels like to be loved by another person. He doesn’t really know how to trust another person and his addictions get in the way of his ability to feel true happiness.

7 Zelda: Todd Chavez

 Todd Chavez

Todd Chavez is voiced by Aaron Paul. Just like Mr Peanutbutter, has an awesome outlook on life. He was bullied by BoJack for years but he still tried to be BoJack’s good friend.

He received a huge favor from BoJack by being invited to live in BoJack’s mansion for free and through every episode, viewers were able to watch Todd get into different types of shenanigans. Regardless of what his interest of the day was, he always tried to enjoy himself.

6 Zoe: Princess Carolyn

Princess Carolyn

Princess Carolyn, voiced by Amy Sedaris, is a hard-working, dedicated, and motivated woman. She takes her career extremely seriously which is why she definitely classifies as a Zoe.

Instead of relaxing, enjoying each moment, and taking things day by day, she is constantly overworking herself and stressing herself out to be more and more successful. She never gives herself the chance to simply rest. If she chilled out more, she could be more of a Zelda.

5 Zelda: Sarah Lynn

Sarah Lynn

Sarah Lynn, voiced by Kristen Schaal, is totally a Zelda. She lived a short and tragic life but while she was alive, she had fun in the only way she knew how— even though it mostly revolved around the use of illegal substances. She grew up enduring abuse from her mother’s boyfriend and then became a symbol of male desire when she was a teenager and young adult. She leaned on her ability to escape reality through illegal substances but because of that, she never really focused on the negative.

4 Zoe: Beatrice Horseman

Beatrice Horseman

Beatrice Horseman was BoJack's heartless mother and she was one of the most cynical and angry women ever. She ended up passing away before the end of the series and BoJack spoke at her funeral... but the things he had to say were not that great. That’s because she wasn’t a great mom. She wasn’t loving, kind, thoughtful, or anything that she should’ve been as a mom. She taught BoJack a lot about being a pessimist in life.

3 Zelda: Wanda Pierce

Wanda Pierce

The reason Wanda Pierce and BoJack’s relationship fell apart is that she saw life in a more optimistic way while he was constantly finding things to complain about. She wanted him to be happier but he didn’t want to change for her, for himself, or for anyone.

That being said, Wanda definitely classifies as a Zelda. She saw the good in BoJack until he decided to push her away.

2 Zoe: Kelsey Jannings

Kelsey Jannings

Even before Bojack betrayed Kelsey Jannings, she was a Zoe. She has a very monotone voice and never really gets excited about anything. She focuses a lot on her career as a director and takes things to heart when other people hurt her. When BoJack betrayed her, she never let it go. Even after he apologized to her, she wanted nothing to do with him and didn’t even want to hear from him.

1 Zelda: Vincent Adultman

Vincent Adulthman

Vincent Adultman is one of Princess Carolyn’s ex-boyfriends. Obviously, their relationship didn’t work out because he was lying about who he was. Just like BoJack Horseman always said, Vincent was really three kids sitting on each other’s shoulders pretending to be an adult (in a trenchcoat). Regardless of Vincent’s lies, he is definitely a Zelda due to the fact that he never really had a bad attitude about anything and tried to experience the best things in life by pretending to be older than he was.
