Dead Ringer on local Movies channel today

Free channel. Noon Eastern time.

Meaning it's a free antenna TV channel, not cable.

I love that movie. Movies is getting much better with their programming; it seems like they're really taking aim at TCMs audience. When they first started, their programming was all over the place.

Dead Ringer is unintentionally hilarious. Bette Davis was playing 40ish, even though she was in her mid-50s and looked 70.

TCM's library seems to have shrunk considerably since the channel partnered with HBO Max. This is the first "31 Days of Oscar" without "Gone With the Wind" and "Casablanca" that I can remember.

I believe "The Essentials" is gone as well, since most of the films featured are on HBO Max.

Gone With the Wind is very problematic now. It's been cancelled.

Well, since no one's going to say WHAT free channel I'll move along.

Gone with the Wind was in theatres last week as part of the Flashback Cinema program. You can't cancel something people want to see; you can only say you disagree with it--and show how ignorant you are of cinema then and today.

I actually love this movie. Old Los Angeles. Slimy Peter Lawford. Bette is great. She pulled off playing twins and added depth to what could have been a rote movie.

Bette's wig in this movie is one of the worst wigs of all time. She actually took it with her after filming and wore it in her private life for quite a while.

The original, LA OTRA (46), starring TWO Dolores Del Rios, is one of the most fabulous melodramas ever made.

Greystone mansion a beautiful home with a very sad and tragic history is now owned by city of Beverly Hills. Good part of grounds that made up former estate long since sold off however and developed into housing.

Loved Dead Ringer in that it followed old school Hollywood film code; that is criminals and others who do bad things must be punished by end of picture.

There's also a bit of Alfred Hitchcock in that Edith Phillips could never have known what her sister Margaret DeLorca had gotten up to. By time she realized grass was certainly not greener on other side it was too late; she'd swing either way....
