KOMPAS.com - Twitter memiliki layanan Periscope yang digunakan untuk menayangkan video live streaming. Namun kini aplikasi Twitter sendiri sudah bisa digunakan secara mandiri untuk siaran langsung tanpa butuh bantuan Periscope.

Fitur live streaming tersebut dibenamkan di aplikasi mobile Twitter versi terbaru untuk platform Android dan iOS yang bisa diunduh di toko aplikasi masing-masing.

Menurut pengamatan KompasTekno, Kamis (15/12/2016), beberapa pengguna aplikasi Twitter di Indonesia sudah bisa menggunakan fitur tersebut. Namun, ada beberapa yang belum kebagian.

Menurut pihak Twitter, perilisan update tersebut memang bakal dilakukan secara bertahap ke seluruh dunia. Dalam satu hingga dua hari ke depan, semua pengguna aplikasi Twitter di mobile dikatakan sudah bisa menikmati fitur tersebut.

Cara menggunakannya mudah saja. Cukup dengan menekan icon “compose tweet”, di sisi kiri (untuk Android) atau kanan atas (untuk iOS) akan muncul icon kamera berbunyi “go live”.

Setelah menekan icon kamera tersebut, pengguna akan langsung melihat tampilan kamera dan mulai menyiarkan video.

Siaran langsung pengguna akan muncul di timeline follower. Pemirsa bisa menonton, berkomentar, dan mengirim “hearts” ke penyiar live streaming.

Secara umum cara kerjanya mirip dengan Periscope karena memang disebut “powered by Periscope” oleh pihak Twitter.

Sebagaimana dirangkum KompasTekno dari The Verge, Kamis (15/12/2016), pengguna Twitter bisa memanfaatkan fitur live streaming baru di atas tanpa perlu memasang aplikasi Periscope.

Langkah menanam kemampuan live streaming ini diprediksi merupakan upaya Twitter menyaingi aplikasi mobile Facebook, yang juga mampu melakukan siaran langsung lewat fitur Facebook Live.

Di sisi lain, fungsi utama Periscope kini diambil alih oleh aplikasi Twitter sehingga membuat masa depannya dipertanyakan.
