Do you miss the freeze frame in TV shows?

When was the last time you saw one. They used to be some great.

Random but interesting, what possessed you to make a thread about this? I actually find it pretty hot to see a cute young guy frozen into a statue, so yeah I definitely miss them.

You mean like Laura jumping in the prairie and freezing mid-air ? As a very small kid, I tried to reproduce that and was frustrated by my failure.

I looked-up freeze frames and found this: Zack Morris vs. Justin Beiber. After the thread about doppelgangers, I'm really starting to get creeped.

What if Beiber was a planned social experiment and we've been programmed to accept his coming? What if a cloning program has long been underway and Isaac Hanson really is a clone of Stephen Baldwin, but Baldwin was the part of the experiment where you let things go to hell?

What if the freeze frame feature was a way to use light flashes to subliminally implant a mind control program into the heads of an audience?!

Sorry. Back on topic. I was watching "Family Ties" one night and that freeze frame at the end of the episode stood out to me, too. You don't see that anymore.

In the very funny but very short lived (only 6 episodes) "Police Squad!" there was a freeze frame at the end of the show....only it wasn't. It was just the actors standing there. As described in Wikipedia: "Each episode featured end credits over a 1970s' style freeze frame of the final scene, except that the frame was not frozen – the actors simply stood motionless in position while other activities (pouring coffee, a convict escaping, a chimpanzee throwing paper) continued around them." Like I said, it was a funny show.

Saturday Night Live did some skit that was a kind of parody of "The White Shadow", the show about the white basketball coach who taught mostly black kids. Only in the skit he was a "black" shadow; it was a black coach played by a guest host. At the end of the skit somebody makes a joke and the coach and the basketball players all have a good laugh. It was really funny because they just froze like the actors in "Police Squad" did. Al Franken looked hilarious; he had his head thrown back and his mouth wide open.

I thought you meant actual time freeze effects where characters freeze in real time

Speaking of Zack Morris, he also froze time by simply calling a "Time out!" and doing the hand gesture.

Most recent one I remember was in a Family Guy segment making fun of The A-Team or some other show of a similar vintage.

I can only think of Bewitched, like when other people stood still while Samantha fixed something and then twitched her nose to set it right. Or were they just standing still?

That it ran only six episodes makes me lose faith in humanity.

Commercials on British TV used to freeze up for a few seconds before the next one would start. I don’t know why, the US commercials didn’t do that.

Almost all of the primetime shows used to freeze frame the final shot and then the EP's name would appear, then they would go to the final commercials and then the end titles. Knots Landing, was the only primetime soap that didn't regularly use freeze frames, which was a stylistic choice by the producers. In daytime, Another World used free frames throughout the 80s and some of the 90s. When daytime soaps used to have end credits, Days would go from their final scene to the end credits and some times would freeze the final scene and show the credits over the final scene.

I'm now an eldergay and I miss freeze frames and end credits and main titles and mid-show bumpers on network TV shows.

Knots Landing had freeze frames, I remember one on Abby when she saw the crack in the cement where she buried Peter Hollister.
