Ed Smith Obituary, Death Cause – We are announcing the untimely loss of Deputy Ed Smith with heavy hearts and great grief. His demise was completely unexpected. Deputy Smith was a pillar in the Sarpy County Sheriff’s Office for over 25 years. He was a committed public servant, a valued School Resource Officer at Gretna Public Schools, a proud Marine, and a treasured friend to many. In addition, Deputy Smith served as a School Resource Officer at Gretna Public Schools. When Deputy Smith first started his career in law enforcement, he worked for the Nebraska State Patrol.

He took with him the dedication and self-control he had gained as a Marine to his new position. During his tenure on the Road Patrol and as an initial member of the famed “Honey Badger” B-Shift team, his commitment shined through and made an impression. But Deputy Smith was more than simply a law enforcement officer; he was a beacon of positivity, famous for his upbeat demeanor, compelling storytelling, and his steadfast readiness to assist others in times of need, whether he was on-duty or off-duty. He passed away recently. Beyond the scope of his professional obligations, he left behind a legacy as a friend and a guide for others.

The Sheriff’s Office of Sarpy County, as well as his family and friends, are grieving deeply over the tragic death of their loved one. All of those who knew and loved Deputy Smith are in our thoughts and prayers at this difficult time.
