POC can do ANYTHING on a TV show or movie. Just don't make them the stereotype!

POC don't wanna be brought in ONLY to play your criminal. They wanna play fully developed characters (as do White actors). Don't ALWAYS bring POC in JUST to be the prostitutes and drug dealers.

Don't pretend there is not a history here of that happening in Hollywood.

I encourage you to watch an old movie called "Hollywood Shuffle." It is hilarious, but addresses racist casting in Hollywood.

In "How To Get Away with Murder," Viola Davis (a Black woman) played a manipulative and demented murderer for SIX SEASONS! She is Black acting royalty. Black people loved that show. It was produced by a Black woman (Shonda Rhimes).

Denzel Washington got an Oscar Award for Training Day where he played a drug dealing, abusive criminal cop. Denzel is also Black acting royalty. Black people loved his portrayal.

Halle Berry got an Oscar Award playing a slut in Monster's Ball (she fucked her husband's executioner)! BTW P. Diddy (a Black man) played a criminal on death row in that picture). I didn't see any protests about either of those portrayals.

Kerry Washington surely was a slut on Scandal (a show written by a Black woman, Shonda Rhimes). Black people didn't cancel her. In fact, a lot of Black people loved the show.

Asians are even now getting better representation on TV. I am seeing Asian women now playing attorneys and lawyers on TV, something that was not really a thing 20 years ago. They used to ALWAYS get the shitty end of the stick - if cast at all!

I remember an episode of the Golden Girls where they poked fun at Asian stereotypes. Stan approached an Asian orderly asking to speak to a doctor. The orderly pretended not to speak English. Stan then gave him money to get a doctor. The orderly took the money and said: "Right away Sir" in perfect English with no accent. It was hilarious because it displayed the inherent bias of some White people when they see someone who is different. The GGs Got it! Even then! Why can't you?

People don't ALWAYS want to play the stereotype!

And it's not like you still can't turn on the TV or go to the movies and see Black and Latino people playing criminals, whores and maids, or Asians playing a spineless asexual nerd or a clueless/out of touch money grubbing asshole. With so few roles available to POC is it really asking too much to say you don't ALWAYS want to play those roles?

Some days I am shaking my head at the level of crazy here on DL. This is one of those days.
