Everclear

I’ve long been fascinated by the idea of this 190 proof alcohol, reminiscent of the moonshine of old in potency.

Has anyone out there ever had it undiluted?

I think it’s typically used mixed with apple juice, isn’t it?

When I was 16, I went to a party where someone brought a big case of it, I took a few bottles with me home and drank that shit pure. In hindsight, it was not a good idea and I don't recommend it, but it didn't kill me either.

I made punch with it and Tang about 30 years ago. People were fuuuuuuuucked up.

Bacardi 151 tastes better but both would be hard to drink without some kind of mix.

It makes your stomach bleed like you swallowed ground glass.

Apple Pie moonshine

Heat:

1 gallon Apple cider

1 gallon Apple juice

2 cups white sugar

2 cups brown sugar

4 cinnamon sticks

Don’t boil, simmer for about an hour. Then add 750ml of everclear and 750ml vodka. Pour mixture into glass jars and refrigerate. Obviously it’s much stronger if you use two bottles of everclear.

Everclear always made me puke.

No one should ever drink this shit straight - that would likely be dangerous and certainly not enjoyable. It is cheap and smells POTENT, but as posters above stated - it has little taste other than "strong" and would be the farthest from "smooth". When I was in a college farternity, we mixed it with any flavor of Kool Aid and/or fruit juice (usually with 7 UP or ginger ale thrown in as well to make it go further) and called it Hunch Punch. It made for really cheap party punch that was guaranteed to get a crowd buzzing for very little $. I can't imagine wanting to mix a drink with it these days. I don't care for sickly-sweat, sugary drinks and those are about all that most would use Everclear for.

Can you buy it in a store?

Most liquor stores carry it.

It is illegal to sell or purchase ANY FORM of Everclear in New York, New Hampshire, Nevada, California, Ohio, Florida, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Hawaii, Iowa, Minnesota and North Carolina.

It is legal to sell or purchase Everclear 151-proof (75.5% alcohol by volume, 70.5% by weight) in the other 36 States in the United States. Everclear 190-proof (95% alcohol by volume, 92% alcohol by weight ) is also legal to sell in the other 36 states, However some of them require that the person buying everclear must be 25 years of age or older, and some require permits or licences to purchase it.

Only in the U.S States of Rhode Island & Texas, and the Canadian Province of Alberta, Everclear 195-proof (97.5% alcohol by volume, the most pure & highest alcohol content possible) is legal and available for sale.

How old is that news r19? It was my understanding that everclear was recently made legal in ny state.

You can order it online, also - even in states where it is not available.

It is too strong. You can't drink it straight, and if you make a big batch of it mixed with fruit juice or something for a party then people can't tell how strong it is and get way too drunk.

I always keep Everclear in the house, I don’t drink it though. I use it to make perfumes, and as a disinfectant. It’s more expensive than rubbing alchohol, isopropyl alchohol, or denatured alchohol, but it isn’t toxic like those are - again, if you don’t drink it. It will remove soap scum, clean and sanitize e-cigarette parts, and disinfect the sink after dealing with raw chicken.

I haven’t bought any in a while because a medical company that was renting space from my old company went under and I brought home four gallons of ethanol that they left behind, so I am using that instead. It’s basically the same thing, and has lasted for years, I still have two sealed gallons and a part of a third
