Back in the eighties we used to gather around on Fridays and watch this with drinkiepoos.

Did anyone else love this series?

This is one show that needs a reboot btw.

I like the part in the 2009 remake where the chick with the huge tits rides Travis Van Winkle til he comes.

Weekends in the 80s were the best:

Friday the 13th: The Series

Tales From The Darkside

The New Twilight Zone

Elvira’s Movie Macabre

USA Saturday Nightmares

Ray Bradbury Theater

This was part of my Saturday night lineup as a kid. As I recall, it had nothing to do with the Friday the 13th film franchise and centered around an old curiosity shop of some sort.

There was a pretty auburn-reddish haired woman.

I had a crush on John D. LeMay and hated when he left the show.

by Anonymousreply 6October 11, 2020 12:56 AM

It had interesting storylines. Loved it.

by Anonymousreply 8October 11, 2020 1:02 AM

They needed to do an episode with possessed salt & pepper shakers.

by Anonymousreply 9October 11, 2020 1:13 AM

Oh yes. Used to love watching this show late at night. I own the entire series on DVD. Used to hate a thing for John D. Lemay.

by Anonymousreply 10October 11, 2020 1:25 AM

John D. Lemay is now a hot daddy.

WTF ever happened to Robie? Anyone with a one word name is usually a bitch.

by Anonymousreply 13October 11, 2020 1:40 AM

Correction: her name was Robey. Still a bitch I'll bet.

by Anonymousreply 14October 11, 2020 1:41 AM

r12 The hot daddy look is a distinct improvement!

Didn’t she marry into European or middle eastern royalty?

by Anonymousreply 16October 11, 2020 1:50 AM

I stopped watching when LeMay left. Robey did a version of "One Night in Bangkok" that used Murray Head's track. Yes, she did marry into royalty and it didn't go well for her.

I watched one episode where they were around a bunch of puritans. Robey was accused of being a witch I think.

by Anonymousreply 18October 11, 2020 2:57 AM

I LOVE this series. The ep where the old lady uses a cursed tea cup to steal peoples youth and the ep with some weird pagan fertility cult and an evil tree were my faves.

by Anonymousreply 19October 11, 2020 3:05 AM

What happened to Robey's marriage?

by Anonymousreply 20October 11, 2020 3:55 AM

R20, if I recall, she married some minor British aristocrat. May have been a Consuelo Vanderbilt thing.

Her second hubby, fashion photographer Stan Shaffer, died ten years ago. She did a podcast interview before he died where she talked in detail about her life, and it was obvious that she was either three sheets to the wind or on something because she was loopy and her speech was slurred.

I loved Louise Robey with her 80s hair, and the story line that resulted in John D. LeMay leaving the show was terrifying to me. When I revisited the series via Netflix DVD, it seemed to be missing something. But I also felt the same about 'Kolchak: The Night Stalker' with Darren McGavin: loved it then, seems Meh now. Can't really explain the disappointment, but there are several possibilities: some things don't age well, my expectations were too high based on good memories, we've come to expect more, I'm Jaded, et al.

Remember the episode with the possessed vibrator.

by Anonymousreply 24October 11, 2020 1:14 PM

Isn't that the show where the female lead is screaming "BRIAN!" at least once in every episode? Loved that show as a kid. Warehouse13 had a similar premise of catching "cursed" items.

by Anonymousreply 25October 11, 2020 2:40 PM

She was screaming “Ryan!” but yes

by Anonymousreply 26October 11, 2020 3:03 PM

It was more like “Roian!” with her faux British accent.
