We haven't heard from her in a long time.

Joey Heatherton hasn't been okay since 1973.
| by Anonymous | reply 1 | December 28, 2019 4:47 AM |
She sang better and moved as well as Ann-Margret.
| by Anonymous | reply 2 | December 28, 2019 4:49 AM |
I’m more concerned with Lola Heatherton.

She should do a traveling show with Connie Frances and Mamie Van Doren.

Wow, if that video at the OP doesn't scream "The Nixon Years," nothing does.

She should have played Roxie Hart, is what she should have done.

Or Carlotta in Follies, R6.

I hear from her at least every other day. Must be just you she's avoiding

That poor girl. Her descent began when she married that awful Lance Rentzel, the Dallas football player. They were considered a match made in heaven, the gorgeous little dancer singer and the studly football star, two young people in love with the world at their feet. It all came tumbling down when it came out that Rentzel was a perv who exposed himself to little girls. She eventually divorced him, but she remained tainted by her association with him ever after.

A friend last night was making me laugh, imitating her. I had no idea all her legal battles. Stabbed a guy w a steak knife in his hand. Smacked some Passport Officer guy upside the head. Damn. Where does she live now?
| by Anonymous | reply 12 | February 22, 2020 5:34 PM |
R11, I think the seeds that led to Joey's descent were planted long before that, though. Her parents were both in show business, and they put her out there entertaining the public at a young age. By 15, she was already appearing on the Broadway stage, and I imagine being a pretty little lamb surrounded by showbiz wolves exposed her to a lot of situations she shouldn't have had to go through. By 20, she was already acting like a sex kitten and dancing provocatively on tv shows, so that kind of attention and expectation must've screwed with her psyche.

She was the Mystery Guest on What's My Line the night Dorothy Kilgallen died (or was murdered).
| by Anonymous | reply 16 | February 22, 2020 6:06 PM |
She sings the opening lines of that song like there is an enormous cock dangling in front of her face that she can't wait to devour.

No thread about Joey is complete without this brilliant performance

So she was a late bloomer?

Weren't Serta mattresses her best payday.
Was she in the legitimate theater when she was on Broadway or just girl in the chorus.
| by Anonymous | reply 20 | February 24, 2020 3:03 AM |
That number looked like it was choreographed by Michael Bennett. He did a lot of her TV appearances. When they did the replacement cast of ACL, Joey was campaigning for Cassie. He did cast a few of his Hullabaloo friends like Joe Bennett and Barbara Britton but Joey was bypassed for Ann Reinking. Here she is singing What I did For Love and it's everything you would imagine.

R20, Joey was girl in the chorus in the original Broadway production of "The Sound of Music (1959), then went on to play Jane Fonda's little sister in Joshua Logan's "There Was a Little Girl" (1960), for which Fonda received her first Tony nomination.

Joey was decades before my time, but she looks like she was tampered with as a young girl. She has that slutty slutty way of singing that Ann Margret had in her old films. Not a bad voice but her inflections are grotesque and embarrassing. When did starlets stop singing that way? Was Joey a suicide or did she die of natural causes?

I suppose she was talented. When I was a boy in the 60's, 70's, she seemed very old fashioned to me. I didn't like that kind of show-biz.
| by Anonymous | reply 30 | February 24, 2020 10:55 AM |
Her daddy was old showbiz, so of course he saw her as a kind of breathy, slutty version of Helen Lawson rather than a someone truly contemporary.

Photo from 2018 (he's on the left). I think he went into real estate after he retired from the NFL.

"What ever became of her disgraced husband, Lance?"
I think he faded away into obscurity, as well he should have. I read his memoir , which had the maulin title "When All The Laughter Died In Sorrow." He was really feeling sorry for himself.

I actually liked her singing voice. Not much of an actress, but like Pia Zadora, they both had fairly strong Broadway style belts. It always surprised me when she'd start out singing in that horrible, breathy sex kitten voice and then blow the roof off the place with some big, sustained belt note.

She was in a movie "Bluebeard" with RIchard Burton, where he keeps murdering lots of famous beautiful actresses. It's rarely shown though.

I wonder why she never went into A Chorus Line later on after Reinking. Maybe she thought being the first replacement was an honor but after that it would be beneath her. (or they didn't want her.)
| by Anonymous | reply 48 | October 19, 2020 6:10 AM |
There were no star cast replacements in the original ACL, were there?
| by Anonymous | reply 49 | October 19, 2020 6:18 AM |
oh wait, Barbara Luna was the first replacement for Diana but only lasted a few weeks and then was fired and replaced with an understudy.
I think she was somewhat well known.

Same with Leland Palmer in LA. She was supposed to be Cassie after McKecnie but had some sort of breakdown and left during rehearsals.
| by Anonymous | reply 53 | October 19, 2020 6:44 AM |
They should have cast a star in the movie since the cast a star as Zach with Michael Douglas. Would have balanced things out better. Don't quite know who though.
