There have already been several threads on this OP. Would it have killed you to have done a search first before you posted this? I mean really? What’s wrong with having a little consideration for others and doing a search first? Would it really have been that hard? Would it? Are you going to be able to give us an honest answer to this? Are you?

I so hate this fucking movie. My dad used to take me to Lancaster PA every Christmas for about 10 days and all the time on what seemed like every channel that was on the hotel's cable system they played this movie over and over and over again. It spoiled the whole vacation because often the weather sucked and we ended up spending lots of time in the hotel. It was a really nice hotel too, modern, a little fancy for Lancaster standards so I don't know why they didn't have some better kind of entertainment. The only other thing to really do was eat and if the weather permitted take a side trip to Hershey PA and see the damn chocolate tour again. Oh and shop, they had a good mall and all those outlet stores. My dad loved the ones that sold electronics. Mostly my memories of those Christmas vacations was putting on the TV and that fucking movie being on, all the time.

Buffalo Gals was a song popularized in Vaudeville by traveling entertainers. They’d change the name of the town depending on where they were. For some reason, perhaps because of this movie, the Buffalo version became the most popular.

I just learned that the expression, “No man is a failure who has friends”, is a quote from Mark Twain, with whom Clarence is so impressed. And I think it’s fine that Clarence is 200 years older than Twain. He probably saw him from up above, or maybe met him at a holiday dinner. That just ties everything together. I always thought the quote was random and weird to give to a family man, before I knew the Twain connection.

In my, just last month, fifty-years of life, I had never seen this movie. I was stuck in my brothers’ place and he decided I just had to see it.
How to say this...
Meh.
It was nothing special. Why is this movie so beloved?
George is a total loser who didn’t have the balls to go out and do what he wanted. He was manipulated time and again so that he was forced to do what he didn’t want to. At some point you just have to say “fuck it”. Some would call him noble and self-sacrificing but I just call him dumb.

R125, I don’t think so. Years ago it was privately owned and required royalty payments to show it, hence it was shown infrequently. Then if fell out of private ownership, and it was often shown repeatedly at no cost to the broadcaster. Then private ownership was restored, and royalties are required again, so I don’t think you’ll see it played round the clock. But check for yourself.

More about me...
[quote]Mary papers the house in a pretty traditional 1940s pattern of people and flowers. But, on that dark night, a troubled George goes up the stairs to see Zuzu, and there's something different. The wallpaper now has a pattern of nautical anchors. George always loved the sound of anchors being lifted because they signaled the beginning of an exciting journey. What do those anchors mean now? That he never got away? That his home is weighing down on him? It could be many things, but it's not a coincidence that this pattern is there.

I'm the not-cracked Liberty Bell that rings at the beginning and end of the film (the independent Liberty Films production company was founded by Frank Capra and Samuel J. Briskin in 1945) and echoes the film's theme of "every time a bell rings an angel gets his wings."

I’m the intern that accidentally knocked a bunch of things over off-screen, creating a lot of noise and potentially ruining the take, to which Uncle Billy improvised, “I’m alright, I’m allllright”, promoting George to laugh. Arguably the best vignette the movie.
