No one wants to get caught with a mic on them, personal utterances revealed to all. But that's exactly what happened to Tony Danza when he appeared on WJXX, a subsidiary of ABC News, to discuss his work with Disney in 1998.
As the host prepared for the show, telling Danza that he was on air, the actor was completely oblivious, throwing shade at news shows. "You end up on those news shows so often, you know, and those news shows are terrible. ... You always think that you're doing those good morning shows, but this is one of those news shows. ...I'm telling you, this is crazy. I don't want to do this. I'm going to be part of the local news. How exciting!" Danza ranted.
The host tried her very best to get Danza's attention, presumably to stop him from humiliating himself any more than he already had. "You never know when people are listening to what you're saying, Tony," she chuckled. But the sitcom star remained heedless.
Eventually, the interview began and Danza realized that his rant had been broadcast. "Oh you heard me, huh? Good," he muttered before asking the host whether she agreed with him just "a little bit." "Well, it's how I make my living, so..." she replied shadily. The jury remains out as to whether Danza showed her who's the boss.
