Sheriff’s deputies stopped a motorist on Monday, Feb. 8, around 1:44 a.m. in Mahopac, Smith said.

The trooper smelled marijuana and, after a search of the vehicle, determined that a passenger, Michael P. Martin, 21, was in possession of marijuana and heroin, the sheriff said.

Martin was charged with second-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor; and with unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation, police said.

Martin was sent to the Putnam County Correctional Facility and held pending arraignment, police said.
