These are probably my two favorite Scorsese films and it's very hard to choose between them. When you watch Mean Streets you get a preview of what Deniro will be like in Taxi Driver and many other movies after that. Most people would take Taxi Driver when choosing between the two. I'm going with Mean Streets because I think it deserves a little more respect than it gets.

Honestly, I don't know what it is about these type of Scorsese films, but they really just don't stick with me like they do with others. I love Raging Bull, I love The King of Comedy, I love Goodfellas, I love Casino, I love The Departed, but these two really just fell flat for me. They deal with similar subject matter, so matter that's why and I really can't relate to either of these characters all that much. Not that I can relate to a boxing champion or a mobster or a sociopath comedian, but I digress, lol. Between these two though Taxi Driver has more going on and is the more interesting of the two, so Taxi Driver it is.

Taxi Driver, for sure. The only thing Mean Streets has got on Taxi Driver is the Stones. Taxi Driver could have used some Stones.

Taxi Driver for sure. De Niro's performing is more mature and razor sharp, the story is unbelievably well done, the unscripted monologue with De Niro looking at himself in the mirror still holds up to this day and forever. Mean Streets had a few memorable moments, but everything about Taxi Driver is timeless.

One of the greatest debuts by a director of all time VS One of the best films of all time.

Taxi Driver is objectively better and it's a top 5 70's film, Mean Streets is not.
