It takes one awkward question for an interview to go completely south in a hurry. We've seen so many examples of that in the past, like Ariana Grande getting asked if she would keep makeup or her cell if she had a choice to keep one thing... the songstress wasn't thrilled with that question.

The same goes for Robert Downey Jr., who was taking part in a promotional interview, though things took a weird turn when he got asked questions about his troubled past which included alcohol... It would result in Downey Jr. walking off the interview.

To Russell Brand's credit, he didn't walk out of the interview, though in truth, he had every right to do so. Sure, his reputation might've taken a hit since his breakup with Katy Perry (according to some fans), however, most fans would agree. Brand did well to stand up for himself, even if it turned the interview into an awkward one.

Russell Brand's Interview On 'Morning Joe' Went Off The Rails From The Start

Imagine starting off an interview with the host not knowing who you are and admitting to this on live TV... Well, that's exactly what Mika Brzezinski did during 'Morning Joe', stating that she wasn't pop-culture savvy.

"He's a really big deal, I'm told this, I'm not very pop culture." Talk about an intro, Brand was clearly put off from the start and from that point on, the next nine minutes were completely derailed, with Brand taking shots at the interviewers.

During the intro, the host was clearly reading the prompter, not knowing a thing about Brand, which just made the actor that much more annoyed.

The interviewers would also refer to Brand as "he," which further annoyed the celebrity guest.

"You're talking about me as if I'm not here and is if I'm an extraterrestrial."

As if things couldn't get any worse, it would. The interviewers would call Russell, Willy... much to the shock of the guest who then say, "Is this what you all do for a living?"

With things all over the place, a commercial break was requested, but it was to no avail. Brand concluded the interview by asking "who is Joe," which was met by a huge burst of laughter from those behind the scenes.

Russell Brand Revealed After The Interview That The Atmosphere At The MSNBC Studio Was Not A Welcoming One

Following the interview, Brand added a little bit of context as to what had taken place. Alongside The Guardian, the actor revealed that things had gone south even before the interview started.

"I have learned to treat people apparently lacking power with cordiality. This means that when I arrived at the New York studios of Morning Joe, the gleaming, informal mid-morning MSNBC news analysis show, I was polite to everyone there."

"I was surprised by the soundman’s impatient intrusiveness and yet more surprised as I stood just off set, beside the faux-newsroom near the pseudo-researchers who appear on camera as pulsating set dressing, when the soundman yapped me to heel with the curt entitlement of Idi Amin’s PA."

Although the interview turned out to be completely awkward, the fan reaction to it was nothing but positive on the platforms like YouTube and Reddit. Fans praised the actor for putting the MSNBC panel in their place after disrespecting the actor.

Note to future interviews, don't refer to Brand as an object, don't judge a book by its cover, and don't start off an interview by saying you don't know who he is. Basically, proper etiquette is needed.
