Robert Rosenfels Obituary, Death Cause – In the quiet moments of reflection and shared memories, we come together to celebrate the life of Robert Rosenfels, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. Robert passed away on January 1 at the age of 77, leaving behind a legacy of love, generosity, and a profound impact on everyone fortunate enough to know him. Born in Chicago, young “Bobby” grew up cherishing the bonds with his sisters, Ellen and Joan.
An avid sports enthusiast, he played tennis and golf and graduated from New Trier High School before pursuing economics at Trinity University in San Antonio. In 1968, Robert met Jamie Wendel, and their love story spanned an incredible 55 years. The couple decided to build a life together on 11 acres near Maquoketa, Iowa, cultivating a large organic garden to nourish their five active children: Jaia, Jaffa, Jeremiah, Sage, and Sasha.
In 1978, Robert founded Great River Stove Co. in Maquoketa, becoming a successful entrepreneur. In 1993, he embraced a new chapter as a manufacturer’s representative for Travis Industries, covering a territory that included Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Missouri. His success enabled him to generously support family, education, and those in need. Robert’s zest for life was evident in his love for travel, hiking, sports, and engaging conversations.
Retirement allowed him to explore the world more extensively while cherishing moments with Jamie and staying connected with each of his children. Doting on his six grandchildren—Peyton, Ava, Kellan, Lola, Finley, and Harper—brought him immeasurable joy. Kind, patient, curious, and generous, Robert Rosenfels became a model of what it means to live a good life. The pain of his absence is immense, but the family aspires to carry forward his spirit by embodying his exceptional qualities.
Services to celebrate Robert’s life will be held at the Unitarian Universalist Society of Iowa City on Saturday, February 17, 2024, at 1:00 PM. All are invited to join in commemorating a life well-lived. In lieu of flowers or gifts, memorial contributions can be made to support the Society’s local justice initiatives. As we say goodbye to a remarkable soul, we honor Robert Rosenfels for the indelible mark he left on our hearts and the enduring legacy of love he leaves behind.
