Scott is still in jail. I think Liberace ruined Scott's life. The kid was only 16. Liberace enabled his drug taking.

I was hoping he wrote a book on him and MJ

"BEhind the Candalabra" was on the other day, the movie that was made out of Thorson's book and which was told from his POV.
Through the whole damn movie, I kept thinking what a shitty boyfriend Thorson was - constantly whining, always demanding and complaining, defensive about his sexuality, drugged up, and totally failing to appreciate Liberace as a person. After an hour I felt sorry for Liberace, and wondered why the hell he put up with it for someone who wasn't that hot.

I was surprised to hear about his tangential connection to the Wonderland murders when I listened to the recent podcast about the incident.

He was supposed to follow up with a book called "Beyond the Candelabra" but he keeps adding unfortunate chapters.
| by Anonymous | reply 4 | July 6, 2018 10:37 PM |
Liberace was a creepy person with few morals, however, Thorson has spent a good part of his adult life in & out of jail for scamming & thieving.
Liberace & Thorson, peas in a pod.

R5, Liberace, for all of his faults, was a good man. He wasn’t perfect, but he was very kind and generous. He had many wonderful qualities.
As for Scott Thorson, he is such an idiot. Liberace offered to help him with his drug problems, but he refused treatment. Liberace would have taken care of him and his estate would still be financially supporting him.
| by Anonymous | reply 6 | July 6, 2018 11:44 PM |
He's right where he needs to be. He's been in and out of prison since Liberace died. The fool couldn't even make it on the Federal witness protection program. He has no self control with dope and now that he has cancer he will more than likely die in prison.
All that plastic surgery Liberace paid for certainly hasn't lasted.

[quote] Liberace offered to help him with his drug problems, but he refused treatment.
Liberace is the one who got him started on dope. Then it got out of hand and the old fool didn't know what to do with him so he cut him off and sent him packing. Plus all the opioids the strip mall plastic surgeon prescribed for him didn't help.
Liberace was no "good man". He was a whore hopping old fool who used a stupid young child for his own lascivious means.
| by Anonymous | reply 8 | July 6, 2018 11:53 PM |
Bullshit, R8. Thorson was doing drugs BEFORE he Liberace. Liberace was very conservative in many ways. He disapproved of illegal drugs. Thorson took the drugs behind Liberace’s back.
Yes, Liberace played around and had a huge amount of sexual encounters. So what? Gay men like sex, and all of us have played around. Who in the hell are you to judge? It was the 1970s when everyone was fucking around.
Scott Thorson was an adult when Liberace took an interest in him. Liberace loved Scott Thorson, but Scott Thorson loved taking drugs more.
| by Anonymous | reply 9 | July 7, 2018 12:03 AM |
He was NOT 16, he was 18 if he was a day and by then his own free moral agent. His foster parents could have stopped him but didn't because he was of legal age. Scott Thorson, whatever else he may have said that may or may not have been truthful, likes to put it around now that he was underage, making Liberace out to be some sort of pedophile, which he was NOT. Thorson was born supposedly in 1959 (according to Wikipedia) and supposedly met Liberace in 1976 making him 17, supposedly, but I think I have read that he was actually born 1958, making him 18 and of legal age. All this "young and innocent" crap put out by Scott Thorson is just that, a bunch of bullshit. Thorson had been around the block quite a few times before he ever met Liberace.

They featured him on ET when BTC came out. He pleaded for help from Damon and Douglas. Couldn’t they help him out? I mean, they did make money off of him.
It’s hard being a boy toy. It messes with your self esteem and can lead to destructive behavior. I think he looks good too, for an older guy.

18 is very young. You could be 18 but have the mentality of a 15 year old. Why do people think that when you turn 18 you magically become this worldly, experienced adult, let alone a been around the block Casanova? Real life is not an adult film.

r14, 18 might be "young" but not too young to vote, drive a car, get married, have children, leave home, or join the military and possibly die for your country. Some might have 15 year old minds, but then some 15 year olds might be mature beyond their years. I agree that 18 is sort of an arbitrary cutoff or perhaps "watershed" age, but what would you have? Jews believe a boy becomes a man at about 12 or 13 when he has his bar mitzvah (or if a girl a bat mitzvah). Are you going to tell them they and their centuries old customs are wrong? Even if Scott Thorson was 16, which he was not, he was probably worldly wise at that age in a way others in their 20s or 30s are not. He had been in and out of foster homes all his life until then so he had probably developed a well honed set of survival skills. He knew what he was getting into when he crawled into bed with Liberace, who, BTW, was the best thing that ever happened to him. And Liberace's housekeeper, Gladys Luckie, said that Scott was the only man Liberace ever loved, for whatever reason I will never understand. I don't know what he ever saw in him.

R11 It is called "The Wonderland Murders". I liked it a lot, hope you enjoy also. It is around 6 episodes and they give plenty of context and backstory into the 70s LA porn scene and the seamy details of John Holmes rise and fall.

Many ppl have wonderful things to say about Liberace, including a 2nd cousin who bearded for him in the 1960s. I think his many issues came as he aged - consequences of excess and the closet.

I think he looks awful and has for a long time. That is what being a drug addict does to you. Thorsons biggest problem has laways been himself. Admittedly living the high life with Liberace and then back to being a nobody would have been tough.
Also, I dont think Liberace was the nicest guy in the world..........he was a notorious slut, always denied he was gay, and use to use guys up.................he might have put on a nice face in public and been good to animals but he was self hating and it showed in how he treated his personal intimate relationships.

Since when is drug addiction a moral failing?
| by Anonymous | reply 45 | February 13, 2019 10:52 AM |
Drug addiction itself isn't a moral failing, r45.
However, I'd say people with APD/NPD/sociopathic tendencies are more likely to become drug addicts, because they suffer from frequent boredom and crave stimulation.

What normal 18 year old kid (even a gay kid) would willingly let some ol' lecherous queen prancing around in a caftan all day long have sex with him for years? None. Thorson was a screwed up mess with the morals of a pig, and apparently he must have had a cast iron stomach as well. The very thought of Liberace coming at me naked with a boner would make me projectile vomit for days.

Liberace was a sweetheart. His last boyfriend Carey got some money, cars and jewelry but ended up dying from AIDS.
Scott was an asshole. BTC was a very sympathetic portrayal of Scott, to say the least. He got into so much trouble that was left out of the book, and Lee always cleaned up the messes- DUIs, car wrecks. Nothing but trouble. And Scott blew through the money he made off this movie in months. He would have been set for life, even with a breakup if he wasn't a junkie.
