Two movies that are actually pretty similar in many aspects. I was disappointed by both, but as I have to choose one, it's Shutter Island. Di Caprio and Kingsley are just much better than anyone in Memento, and Shutter Island has a very intense atmosphere until about half of the film.

Memento is far better. Guy Pearce's performance was more effective than Leo's. But I like them both.

I liiked Shutter Island., but I loved Memento. I've watched Memento 3 times with each time being better than the previous one. I think I could watch it 5 times with each viewing topping the last. I watched Shutter Island twice and it was even better the second time around. But I don't think it'll keep getting better like Memento. Easy choice for me: Memento wins.

I'm probably higher on Shutter Island than most people, but Memento is better. They are actually 33 and 34 on my chart.

Both are fantastic Psychological Thrillers by two of my favorite directors. Both feature strong performances from both their lead and their supporting cast. Both films also mess with your brain quite a bit and keep you guessing to the very end. It is pretty close, but I've gotta go with Memento, its narrative structure is unlike any other and even after the film ends your still not entirely sure what really happened.
