Before Christmas, I had a consultation with a cosmetic dentist. I want three crowns, and five veneers for my upper teeth.
I asked to see shade samples. She would not show me shade samples. She told me she'd pick a color that matches my natural lower teeth. My lower teeth are yellowish--not stained, that's just their color. I've always had yellow, dull teeth. However, my lower teeth are small and can't be seen when I talk, so I'm not bothered about them. My upper teeth CAN be seen, and that's why I want veneers/crowns.
I've had my teeth professionally whitened twice in the past, and the results were poor. I've also tried many bleaching products over the years, but they continue to stay yellow-tinted. I was told my a previous dentist that my enamel is thin and my dentin is dark, so I'll always have yellow teeth.
I explained this to the new dentist, and told her I obviously don't want yellow veneers. The whole point of getting veneers is so I'll look better. Why would I waste all that money just to get YELLOW VENEERS? She just kept insisting that I whiten my teeth first (almost 500 dollars), and that she'll choose the color of my veneers.
I don't get if I end up with two-tone teeth. I want WHITE veneers. Not super fake, blinding white, but healthy and pearly. I don't want to glow in the dark. My lower teeth can't be seen; I don't care if they're yellow. My uppers are the priority.
Is this normal? For a dentist to give a patient no options? If somebody's about to spend thousands of dollars, they should be allowed to look at some shade samples, for fuck sakes.
And before somebody says it, no, I have no plans on getting veneers on my lower teeth. They're straight and healthy, just a bit yellow. THEY CAN'T BE SEEN.

I made a typo. I'm meant to say, I don't care if I end up with two-tone teeth.

I think you need to go to another dentist. This dentist is being completely realistic, you need a dentist who's willing to take your money to make you look ridiculous.

You can try to compromise and ask to go a shade or two lighter.

It's not her money, it is yours! I had the same problem with a dentist and when the crown came, I refused it. It is your choice, and tell her you won't pay for it unless it is YOUR choice,

there is some sort of disconnect here. learn from it. The dentist is not helping you understand the situation and what might be right for you. Go to another dentist or two for consultations. Go to three if you need to. Be very, very careful about dentists who tell you what you want to hear. what you dont want to do is spend thousands on procedures that look bad and you seem deadset on doing that.

What the hell is wrong with your mouth that no one can see your lower teeth?
Seems odd.

You sound like a serious freak of nature. Repeated chemical whitening procedures, and your teeth are still "naturally" yellow?
If I were you, I'd get a handle on this unsightly discoloration before I bothered with any crowns or caps. Or just pay ElderLez to smack the shit out of you until all your gross natural teeth fall out, and we can get you a nice uniform set of Roebuckers like your grandfather had.

She’s right, OP. Why would you want white chiclet teeth with yellow ones? Get them bleach. Get them matched.

OP, you shouldn’t get veneers. You should save your real teeth. They chisel down your real ones for them and then they have to be replaced costing an arm and a leg.

Tell your dentist that you are gay and vain

When I got veneers my dentist showed me a color chart and gave me his suggestion for and then asked my opinion. I agreed with his choice and I'm happy with the outcome. You need to find a new dentist before you throw more money away on this one.

People of a certain age were given an antibiotic as a child, which yellows teeth. Very little can be done to whiten them. OP's dentist is giving good advice. If OP doesn't like it, he should get another dentist.

To answer your question OP, no, the dentist is not being unreasonable. They are concerned about doing professional job. To get the results you're looking for try Tijuana.

Here, OP. Watch and decide!

One does not trust a "cosmetic" anything, including a fang-buffer, to make the choices.
Would you put up with this attitude from a nail girl, a hair burner or your wig maker, OP?

Go to Turkey like all the infuencers

Don’t get veneers ew. Just get your teeth cleaned and maintained well. Why the fuck would you get rid of perfectly good teeth? Veneers are so unnatural looking. Not cute. I much prefer normal teeth on a person. Hate those big fake smiles. There’s beauty in ‘imperfection’.
