It seems like a sad freak show. Like any DL'er bio.

by Anonymousreply 1December 10, 2022 9:49 PM

It sounds so stupid, and Fraser is a wimp.

by Anonymousreply 2December 10, 2022 10:13 PM

I’m searching for comments from anyone who’s actually seen the play but it doesn’t seem to have been a DLer magnet.

by Anonymousreply 3December 10, 2022 10:21 PM

I’m so sick of this phony fat fuck. His latest in his oppressed victim series is that he didn’t do the George of the Jungle sequel because they didn’t pay him well enough. If he wins an Oscar for wearing a fat suit and telling his me too story over and over again, ugh…

by Anonymousreply 4December 10, 2022 10:26 PM

HAIL TO THEE, FAT PERSON!

by Anonymousreply 6December 10, 2022 10:47 PM

Fat hoes bemoan!

Just admit it that fat people are not a transformative and sympathetic figure!

by Anonymousreply 7December 10, 2022 10:50 PM

No one was asking for this treacly mess.

by Anonymousreply 8December 10, 2022 10:53 PM

He said his overweight son inspired him. Thanks, dad!

Wow R9, what a dick. But I get it, wasnt he broke because he was paying like 40k a month in child support? And that's what his money funded? Yeah, I can see he'd be a little resentful.

[quote]It needed a Trans

If a gay actor played this role, I would be suspect of the poor ratings by critics, but since it wasn’t a gay actor, I’m okay about it.

[quote]Roxane Gay is NOT impressed.

Is she ever.

by Anonymousreply 13December 10, 2022 11:34 PM

R13 of course not. This is exactly what we all expected of her.

by Anonymousreply 14December 10, 2022 11:36 PM

R14 exactly. So predictable, so boring.

by Anonymousreply 15December 10, 2022 11:37 PM

Who gives a shit about what Roxane thinks?

by Anonymousreply 16December 10, 2022 11:43 PM

Brendan, tell everyone how you were molested again!

DO SOMETHING!!!

The tides are really shifting on this one. A few months ago, Fraser got a five-minute standing ovation after a screening at the London Film Festival, and the internet seemed to rally around him as the biggest comeback hero since Travolta in Pulp Fiction. Then the "Fraser is black-facing fat people" social media critiques began.

Now that the mixed reviews are coming in, it's obvious that whether it's bad or good, The Whale is going to be a victim of the times. No more than twenty years ago, this film would have come and gone, maybe winning Cannes or an Independent Spirit Award, maybe an Oscar nomination. Today, it's another piece of entertainment, which the perpetually perturbed fat-acceptance movement is using as a "platform" to convince us that morbid obesity (Fraser plays a 600 lbs. man) should be... I don't know, normalized? That either Fraser should have gained an extra 350 lbs. for the role or they Aronofsky should have cast a great big fat person? Samuel D. Hunter used Charlie’s (Fraser) fatness as storytelling device after he went through a similar struggle with weight, that's it. There was no hidden agenda to bring down Big Fat.

That said, when ever Fraser comes up, I always think of the story my good friend told me about the time he bumped into Fraser at a 1997 circuit party, around the time of George of the Jungle. Frau's will be relieved to know that Fraser was fully clothed in Los Angeles-area house, which was filled with nude men fucking all over the place. My friend said Fraser was "just looking around."

Here's Fraser, also in 1997, with Rosie. Look at those majestic locks of his.

It's such obvious Oscar-bait. Both the film and campaign seem manipulative.

I don't think Fraser will win. He will be nominated, though.

by Anonymousreply 19December 11, 2022 1:21 AM

So what exactly are you saying, R18?

Is Brendan or isn't he gay and closeted?

by Anonymousreply 20December 11, 2022 1:55 AM

I read Gay’s article about the film and it was pretty thoughtfully. However someone weighing 600 lbs is killing themselves with food. It’s no different from someone with anorexia. It’s not fat shaming to point that out. Is it skinny shaming to worry about people with eating disorders. Or is it just obese people who get a pass.

by Anonymousreply 21December 11, 2022 3:03 AM

R19 Being nominated will be a win for Brendan Fraser imo. I have a feeling Colin Farrell will snag the Best Actor statue come March.
